GAYO Applauds Malawi’s New National Youth Policy
The Girls Activist Youth Organisation (GAYO) wholeheartedly endorses the newly unveiled National Youth Policy (2023-2028), a comprehensive framework designed to empower Malawian youth to effectively address social, cultural, economic, and political challenges and capitalize on opportunities to realize their full potential.
GAYO is particularly pleased with the policy’s emphasis on inclusive youth engagement, ensuring that marginalized young people, including those with disabilities and albinism, are not left behind. We firmly believe that this policy has the potential to make a transformative impact on the lives of all Malawian youth.
Key Highlights of the New Youth Policy
- Empowering Youth Voices: The policy prioritizes youth participation in decision-making processes, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are taken into account.
- Addressing Climate Change: Recognizing the urgency of climate action, the policy encourages collaboration among governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and community groups to combat climate change.
- Promoting Practical Education: The policy emphasizes the importance of hands-on education that equips young people with the skills and knowledge needed to make informed career choices.
- Ensuring Effective Implementation: A dedicated task force on youth will be established to oversee the implementation of the policy across all ministries, ensuring that it is not just a document but a roadmap for action.
GAYO’s Commitment to Youth Empowerment
GAYO pledges its unwavering support to the government and other partners in ensuring the successful implementation of the new youth policy. We believe that this policy has the potential to unlock the full potential of Malawian youth and create a brighter future for all.
We encourage all young people to actively engage with the new youth policy and contribute to its realization. Together, we can create a society where all Malawian youth have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
