Today, as the world celebrates Mother’s Day, Girls Activist Youth Organisation (GAYO) joins the people of Malawi in honouring the unswerving love, resilience, and sacrifices of mothers especially those in rural and farming communities across Malawi.
Mothers are the heartbeat of our society their dreams, hopes, and courage fuel the future of our children and communities. Yet, too often, their daughters’ dreams are cut short by early and forced marriages, denying them the opportunity to reach their full potential through education.
At GAYO, this day is more than just a celebration it is a renewed call to action. We stand with mothers who continue to fight for their daughters’ right to learn, grow, and lead. Through our advocacy for inclusive education, we are working to ensure that no girl is left behind simply because of where she was born or the challenges her community faces.
In many rural and farming areas, mothers play a crucial role in encouraging their daughters to stay in school, resist harmful social norms, and envision brighter futures. Their voices are powerful. When empowered, they become champions of change influencing communities to say no to early marriages and yes to education.
This Mother’s Day, GAYO celebrates:
