Girls Activist Youth Organisation (GAYO) Celebrates International Day of the Girl Child at BICC

Celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child:

The International Day of the Girl Child, celebrated on October 11th annually, is a day dedicated to highlighting the challenges girls face worldwide. It focuses on issues like education, gender equality, child marriage, access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services, and the eradication of gender-based violence. This day’s goal is to promote gender equality, empower young girls and women, and advocate for their human rights. In 2023, the theme is “My Voice, Our Equal Future,” emphasizing the importance of amplifying the voices of girls and ensuring equal opportunities for all.

This year, our commemorative event, “The Girls Summit 2023,” will be the centerpiece of our celebration. It aims to provide a platform for young girls to express their concerns, share their experiences, and inspire one another. The summit will feature workshops on leadership development, entrepreneurship, education, health, and well-being, led by experts in their respective fields. The goal is to encourage girls to be confident in themselves and take an active role in shaping their future.

A Continuing Struggle for Equality, Despite significant advancements, girls still face discrimination, violence, and unequal opportunities. The Girls Summit, an event planned for this year’s commemoration, aims to provide a platform for girls to express their concerns and celebrate their achievements. This summit will facilitate workshops on leadership, entrepreneurship, education, health, and well-being, led by experts, to inspire girls to be confident and proactive in shaping their futures.
