GAYO Volunteer Evelert Attends Capacity Building Workshop on Feminist Advocacy

Girls Activist Youth Organization (GAYO), is proud to announce that our volunteer, Evelert, participated in a full-day capacity building workshop on Feminist Advocacy, hosted by the Young Feminists Network (YFN). This workshop, sponsored by GIZ and graced by the presence of the renowned feminist activist, Jessy Kabwira, took place on December 7th, 2023, at the GIZ Headquarters in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The workshop, aligned with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, focused on equipping young feminist leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively advocate for women’s rights, particularly in the fight against GBV.

Evelert actively participated in the interactive sessions, gaining valuable insights into various aspects of feminist advocacy, including:

  • Feminist Theories, Values, and Principles: Evelert deepened her understanding of key concepts like intersectionality, gender analysis, and feminist leadership frameworks.
  • Effective Advocacy Skills: She acquired practical skills in communication, lobbying, and campaign development, enabling her to become a more impactful advocate for change.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E): Evelert learned how to assess the impact of projects and initiatives through M&E techniques, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Building a Network of Collaboration: Evelert connected with other young feminist leaders and organizations, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

GAYO strongly believes in investing in the capacity building of young girls like Evelert, who are passionate about creating a more just and equitable society. This workshop provided her with the necessary tools and knowledge to become a more effective advocate for the rights of girls and women in Malawi.

Evelert is eager to share her learnings with the GAYO team and put her newfound skills into action. We believe that her participation in this workshop will significantly contribute to our organization’s efforts to empower girls and challenge harmful gender norms in our community.

GAYO is grateful to YFN, GIZ, and Jessy Kabwira for organizing this important workshop and providing young feminist leaders like Evelert with the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a positive difference in the world.

Together, we can #EndGBV and create a brighter future for all girls and women!
