Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps: GAYO and Web for Life Empower Youth on SRHR

Young people across Malawi are stepping up to champion Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through innovative peer-to-peer approaches. At the 2024 National Youth Conference on SRHR, held on December 18 at Ubuntu Lodge in Salima, youth leaders and stakeholders united under the theme “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps, Building Futures for Adolescents and Youth on SRHR.”

Girls Activist Youth Organisation (GAYO) proudly participated, presenting transformative experiences and innovative SRHR models and addressing the challenges and emerging issues facing young people. The conference also featured key contributions from Web for Life, a network committed to empowering girls and young women to amplify their voices and influence policies that impact their futures.

The event brought together critical stakeholders, including representatives from the Salima District Social Welfare Office, Judiciary, and Salima Youth-Friendly Health Services, who committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment that ensures all young people can access SRHR services. Stakeholders pledged to strengthen partnerships and advocate for policies promoting inclusivity and equity.

This landmark event reaffirmed the power of collective action in ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for young people. GAYO and Web for Life are at the forefront of building resilient, informed youth ready to break barriers and create brighter futures.
