Community Engagement Begins for TiKuMA Project at Chimteka TDC (T/A Simphasi), Mchinji
GAYO, in collaboration with Girls Empowerment Network (GENET) with funding from Save the Children Malawi under the NORAD Framework Agreement, kickstarted the TiKuMA Project in Mchinji District through a community entry meeting held at Chimteka TDC (T/A Simphasi). The meeting brought together key community leaders, members of the Area Development Committee (ADC), and GAYO representatives to discuss child rights issues including child protection, early marriages, gender-based violence, and inclusive education.
This initial engagement emphasized the importance of community involvement in shaping and sustaining systems that safeguard children’s rights. GAYO’s approach through the TiKuMA Project focuses on building local capacity and enhancing government systems to ensure all children, especially girls and those with disabilities, have access to quality education and protection.
The project, running from 2024-2028, will target 62 primary schools in Mchinji, improving foundational literacy and numeracy, and protecting children from harmful practices.
This marks the start of a collaborative effort aimed at transforming the future for and with children in Mchinji.
